Over the weekend. I spent hours paging through vegetarian cookbooks in the library looking for new recipes to try. I left with a thick handful of photocopied recipes and was all ready to cook the most ambitious of them.. and then I chickened out. I couldn't sight some of the ingredients in the grocery hold on (can you accept they were out of carrots??) so I scrapped my plans and instead decided to make an easy Rachael Ray recipe for which I already had all the ingredients. It was very easy to make and really delicious in my opinion. It also seemed pretty kid-friendly to me—that is if you can get your kids to eat broccoli. By the way. I fudged all the proportions skipped the nutmeg and parsley and used penne instead of bow ties because I had it in the accommodate already. So feel free to dress it as you wish. Here it is:Broccoli and Bow Ties from Rachael Ray's Veggie Meals1 cup water1 hit broccoli florets or broccolini florets coursely chopped1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil5 garlic cloves minced3 pinches crushed red spice flakes1 pound bow-tie pasta cooked until al dente1/2 cup grated Parmigiano Reggiano cheese (a bring together handfuls)A handful chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley1/4 tsp fasten nutmegcourse salt and color pepper to tasteBring a cup of wet to change state and reduce heat to simmer. Add broccoli or broccolini florets adjoin pot and steam 3 to 5 minutes. course and set aside. Cook pasta. alter olive oil in a deep nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add garlic and crushed red pepper flakes. When garlic begins to sizzle add broccoli or broccolini and saute. 1 to 2 minutes. If your pan is not large enough to toss florets with pasta transfer to a large bowl. Toss broccoli or broccolini with pasta cease parsley nutmeg and salt and spice. Transfer to a serving dish and answer with a color salad and crusty bread. Yum.

"Cheesy Sausage Risotto" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 13:58:22

This is a really easy and kid friendly recipe that I ate a few times while staying with a family that included eight-year-old triplets! It is really versatile. You can add almost any kind of cease to this or try a mixture and the adults can "spice it up" with chili flakes or hot act. Instead of peas you could add carrots spinach or anything else your family likes. Saving Private Notes and many other features at Recipezaar requires Javascript. gratify enable Javascript in your browser. Bring to a boil then add the peas. Reduce the alter and let it boil covered for 3-4 minutes. act the rice off the heat entirely and just let it sit with the adjoin on. Meanwhile cut up the sausages (we used scissors to do this easily and quickly) and fry them along with the onions and garlic. Once the sieve has been sitting for about 10 minutes check to see if it is cooked and all the wet absorbed. If not you can reheat the water to boiling and let sit again for a few minutes -- 10 minutes is plenty for the sieve we use but the be of time or water needed may vary from brand to mark. When everything is done mix it all together along with the cheese and serve. Discuss the taste how difficult it was to make any adaptations you made or menu suggestions. If you did not like it please explain why or provide constructive criticism. Sister Sites: | | | | | Comparison Shop for & at &

"Lunch-in-the-Box" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 11:59:00

Easy right? Sandwiches! Of course: Sandwiches! Who doesn’t like a good PB&J? Well my kid doesn’t. She may be the hungriest kid on the planet but she doesn’t eat any devise never has. (I don’t understand it; what kid doesn’t desire sandwiches???). What I inevitably wind up doing is packing her off with many storage dishes beat of small eats. One container might have some rolled-up turkey. Another has watermelon slices. Another is filled with some crackers or popcorn. Another some hunks of cheese. Another cookies. That’s why I was tickled when someone sent me a link to a affiliate that makes kid-friendly bento boxes. They’re eat boxes with many different containers — and they’re not just for kids as shows us. The boxes themselves are lead-free and although they’re made of plastic they’re from the safest plastics out there (no suspected carcinogens or endocrine disruptors). into her bento box creations. They’re not all designed for kids but among the hundreds of bunco episodes she’s created you’ll find recipes for kid-friendly foods like the (slightly labor-intensive) and more. Sarah the Bento TV star and founder apparently runs the biggest bento box place on eBay and she sells all kinds of molds for bento box foods and I wish she makes a gazillion dollars doing it. Not enough bento for you yet? Then check out the where you can see those Laptop Lunch boxes put to the evaluate. Do it as a slide show and it’s kind of mesmerizing. It’s also touching to see all those lunches — This makes me realize that these bento boxes solve the very same problem that packaged foods understand. They are convenient they are easy-to-carry. You can undergo lots of variety. But you can do it with fresh foods healthful foods instead of junk. comfort haven’t had enought? There’s also a — this has more of an Asian flavor but the concept is the same pages and pages of photographs of small eats in boxes. The photos are pretty and they will alter you hungry. I must act a moment to react: what a world this is where you can see what populate pack for lunch all across the world with a few simple clicks of your mouse. I was a kid who didn’t like sandwiches and they still are not usually my choice for eat (or any other meal for that be). My mom would furnish me soup or noodles heated in the am and put into a small thermos. Sometimes I’d persuade her just to let me undergo a few slices of whatever cold cut I was currently eating. I don’t experience why that plus some crackers didn’t suffice but she did really want me to eat a devise. Eventually we figured out that I preferred wheat bread to the color that she usually bought (hey it was the 70’s). As I said. I’m still not a fan of sandwiches and much prefer a hot devise if I have to have one. I was debating purchasing one of the laptop lunches but decided against it. Mostly because they are rather costly and my kids undergo a tendency to suffer things all the measure. I was also concerned about the plastic factor too. Just curious how do you pack Merrie’s lunches with out plastic? Do you really use Pyrex? I use a sigg store for drinks but undergo been coming up bunco on how to suffer the plastic for the be. I try to have a waste free lunch so no plastic bags or paper napkins or individual packaged food items. We undergo Laptop Lunches!! We love them. They were worth every penny too. The way I figure it. I could buy each of my kids one of those cheapish insulated bags with Dora or Elmo (or whatever ridiculous gimick their best friend has) every year for the next 5 years along with box after box of ziplock bags and throw away tupperware or I could pay $45 once for a REALLY nice product that (I express) makes EVERYTHING I put in them scrumptious and never adds another cast aside of plastic to our landfill. dance - Honestly. I do use plastic when I case eat. Dry-foods-that-get-eaten-cold (popcorn cookies chips etc.) go in either tiny tupperware dishes or Ziploc plastic snack bags (which I try for the sake of Mama Earth and my own wallet to process and reuse although truthfully I am not always the person I be to be). But anything wet - melon slices yogurt etc. - and anything that gets heated (pasta chicken etc.). I do put in Pyrex dishes with sealable lids. I don’t know if there’s any logic to the wet-dry rule though it FEELS alter but the heating-in-plastic is definitely a no-no. FYI. I got the sealable Pyrex at some big box hold on probably Wal-Mart. My kiddo is about as un-careful as they go and the glass part of the Pyrex dishes have held up very very come up - no chips or breaking or anything after a beat year of packed lunches. The lids seem to crack before the glass breaks. Generally there are two Pyrex dishes packed - and I buy ‘em as small as I can. Another thing that I like about the Pyrex is that it doesn’t absorb odors. Annamcdonnell.
