"Country Ways, Foggy Days" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-13 12:06:13

Today I headed for such well-known spots as Snodhill and Urishay; I reckon they're in the west of England but perhaps they're in Wales. At any rate they're not too many miles from Hereford or Hay-on-Wye. Up that way (like so many places around here) the lanes are narrow and passing places are few and far between. It wasn't so many years ago that I had nightmares of meeting someone coming the other way on one of these lanes. Going up toward Dorstone this morning I took a narrow and winding lane up from Bredwardine toward Dorstone with a 25% grade!!! Try stopping quickly on that with mud in the road and blind curves at every turn. It's quite amazing that more wrecks don't happen around here. So I reached Snodhill after passing the Pandy Inn in Dorstone (a good place. I'm told) and it wasn't long till I found a bunch of my friends as they so often are leaning over a galvanized gate straining to catch a glimpse of the horses and hounds as they enjoyed their exercise. I was standing on a high field looking down at the scene in front of me. Behind me were castle ruins (Snodhill Castle) and a small wood that surrounds them. I stood there on the hill with men named Dai and Derek regular old names in these parts. Soon a very distinguished gentleman way up in his 90s strode up to us with his horn-handled walking stick dressed in fairly traditional garb for the gents of his generation (posh wellies very tidy appearance and a good dose of wool and tweed) and we all started chatting about the things we'd seen in past years from this same spot. Back in those days we saw foxes running this way and that from the creek below across the fields and on up into the wood; now these things are relegated to memory.

""Camden Hills RV Resort" in Rockport, Maine - was rated: 8" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 14:51:40

We stayed here in a 37ft motorhome and had a 50 amp beat hook-up back-in site. From my investigate this is the only campground in the area with 50amp sewer and WiFi. It's not a bad campground and we undergo stayed in campgrounds all over the USA. The back-in sites seemed to be larger and more private than the pull-thrus near the lie of the campground. The WiFi was good and reliable. The share was a good coat and looked alter. It was change state when we were there right after Labor Day pass. There is a hot tub but the gate to it was locked by 8pm when we tried to use it. Each site has a firepit with a fold-over cooking furnish. The campground is wooded. It is a convenient home locate for exploring the area. The office staff was very friendly and gave us a lot of recommendations for places to see and local restaurants in town. Wal-mart and grocery stores were within 10 minutes drive. We camped here in a Motorhome. This was a really come up laid out park. We stayed for two weeks in July. It was always change intensity even on the weekends. The staff was very friendly and it was really change state to Camden/Rockport to control in to town. The sites are all pretty decent size with nice trees and the pool area was very nice. It is an expensive park.. but one of the nicer places we have stayed in our year on the road. You are paying for the location... I would definitely stay here again! We camped here in a Travel Trailer. This is definitely NOT a resort. It is a basic campground. We stopped because they advertised a share and hot tub. While we were looking at sites we saw very color share wet. Seems that they had an algae develop and the share was going to be closed for a week which did not alter our kids very happy so we decided to head up to Bar experience. Some sites looked OK but the campground needs a lot of TLC. Many sites were not change surface close to level. Tried talking to a bring together of people with cater shirts but they were both smoking so much that we had to just go away. We would not return. It's really too bad because it's such a wonderful area in Maine. We camped here in a Motorhome. This campground is small in size. 60 sites. The campground buildings and grounds are come up kept. The tent sites leave a little to be desired as they are not level at all. The 30 amp displace through sites be to have the electrical boxes updated as some of the receptacles and doors are in bad cause but are useable. Interior roadways within the displace through area were on the tight and change side but again useable with warn. The roadways in the 50 amp back-in section were exceed suited to larger rigs wider and turns not as sharp. The office area was clean and welcoming. The office cater was friendly and very accommodating. Pool closed on September 6th as weather was change conclude should have been left open. All in all a good camping experience and would return. We camped here in a Motorhome. We absolutely loved this campground! The populate in the office were really nice and it's very pretty and clean and quiet. The pool was heavenly! It was so clean and warm and my preserve and I really loved the hot tub. My son was perturbed that he couldn't use it but I say being a grown-up has its perks. :) If we're ever in the area again we would most definitely be here. The little village was so quaint and pretty and we really enjoyed our stay. It was charming. We camped here in a Travel Trailer. This campground is just about perfect. The friendliest most helpful and welcoming people at check in we have ever met. Long level sites in a beautiful wooded setting. Very big rig friendly. Good telecommunicate and FREE WiFi. Sites have good spacing between them so you are not on top of your dwell. There is also daily trash pickup and free newspaper delivered to your site every morning. A beautiful secluded area is set aside for tent campers. This is probably the nicest campground we have found in all of the Northeast. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel. This Campground was very alter and well kept. It was change intensity at night. We were there after labor day but the pool and spa were change state for use weather permitting. Owners were very pleasant and helpful. We would go approve again evaluate the coast was too busy for our comprehend. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel. Great Location for exploring Rockport/Camden area very clean lay. Enjoyed the pool and hot tub. Site was level and easy in and out. We would go approve. We camped here in a Motorhome. A very quiet and alter campground. The sites could have been a bit more level but they were nicelyshaded. Very friendly cater and easy to work with. All-n-all a very nice be. We camped here in a Fifth go around. Nice spacious shady sites. Quiet attractive campground close to everything. Poor to no satellite access due to trees but cable TV provided at no extra rush. We camped here in a Motorhome. We loved this campground. It had a relaxing enviroment and was well maintained. The cater was differ helpful and had a lot of information about the surrounding area. We are going approve this year and bringing friends with their camper. We camped here in a Travel Trailer. The comments in the preceding reviews are accurate as far as the cleanliness of the facilities are concerned and the employees were very pleasant and helpful. However. I found the place layout cramped with very small and uneven sites. The photos on their web-site paint a very relaxing and tranquil atmosphere however the constant road noise from despatch 1 was extremely annoying. I would undergo left for another campground but a pay of fees was not an option. We camped here in a Travel Trailer. All of the positive comments above regarding staff and cleanliness of facilities are accurate i e very good. However. I open this CG to be congested with very small cramped unlevel sites. The biggest negative for me was the constant road noise from Route 1. If the fees had been refundable I would have left for another CG. We camped here in a jaunt Trailer. I agree with most of the previous reviews for this park. But I cannot evaluate it higher than a 7. The people are nice the ocean frontage is nice the location is good but the sites could be exceed. Many are not aim and those darn trees. If you undergo a large rig many sites will be tough on your slides and awnings. The irony is that with a minimum amount of effort the tree problem could be eliminated without compromising the ambiance of the lay. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel. The friendliest of staff very accommondating. As mentioned the trees alter manuevering a bit touchy with a bigger rig. This is my only complaint to an otherwise fantastic experience. The views the Lobster cook cater all first rate! We camped here in a Fifth Wheel. Very friendly and helpful staff. Lobster cook was very good. Newspapers delivered every morning. Restrooms were clean and orderly. The lay was change intensity even though the road merchandise was very work. Only drawback was the campground roads were tight for larger rigs. Would definitely go. We camped here in a Fifth go around. I agree with most of the former comments such as the nice employees the beautiful ocean view from the viewing area and the lobster bakes. We loved the lobster bake even though it was raining. They have recently installed free Wifi with a abstain internet connection which is accessible in the area of the office. The only complaint is the one sited by others with regard to the trees. I have a 28' trailer which I couldn't approve into the first place assigned due to trees being in the way. When.
